Putting visitors inside Evel Knievel’s photographs

The Harley-Davidson Museum’s Evel Knievel retrospective used artifacts and photographs to tell his story. The museum wanted visitors to appear in those photographs themselves.

We built an Insert-a-Face installation that placed each visitor into Knievel’s own action photographs, so the exhibit stopped being a display and became something you could be in. Visitors left with an image of themselves inside a piece of the story.

It ran for the length of the summer exhibit rather than an evening, which is a different engineering problem: it had to work every day, for months, operated by museum staff.

Where would yours run?

One store or three hundred. Same answer.
